How to survive the “bad beginning”

animestudyblr

If you are like me and you got the worst schedule, the worst teachers and the hardest assignments in the beginning of the new school year, first, take a deep breath. I got your back!

Second, listen to my little advice (i think i needed some too, but i have to listen to myself first..)

note: this is my first masterpost, so I’ll try my best. Feedback is welcomed!

Let’s start!

Imagine this:

It’s your first day of the new school year. You finished the previous year pretty well or even really good with good grades, etc.

So. You’re walking into class and that feeling of “the coming storm” hits you in your face. And you’re just thinking: “something bad will happen. i feel it”. And with the lot of luck you have, like me: you are totally right!

You’ve planned a good new year with good grades but then there’s a lot of work and hard projects you have to do, bad teachers and the worst schedule/subjects possible.

What will you do?

How will you survive this school year?

hellooo!! (◕∀◕)ノ long-due update: i’m currently on study break and my exams are in mid may, so i have about four weeks to revise! it feels like a lot of time but i have four huge folders worth of lectures to go through… (T⌓T)

i’m really looking forward to the summer tho, i’ve signed up for a german intensive course at my university and i’m planning to self-learn japanese at the same time. it’ll be a nice break from my medical studies!

When i’m studying i usually need to create the perfect environment if i really want to get work done. Here’s what i usually do:

  • make my bed: i know it sounds stupid but it helps, i swear
  • tidy everything you don’t really need on your desk: if you don’t need it, it’s just a waste of space
  • find the perfect light: yes, it sounds like a shitty selfie advice, but try studying with natural sunlight, and then study with a yellow-ish neon light. we both know what’s really better.

but where should we study? this is a hard question, but i’ll try and answer.

  • try not to study on your bed: it’s confortable, cozy, warm, soft, beautiful and that’s why you’ll just fall asleep and never study again.
  • on the desk, on a table: it works perfectly because you’re not distracted by anything and you have a large amount of space to use.
  • couch? it depends. if you need to take notes, cram or something like that, i wouldn’t do it. if you just need to practise some quizzes, your choice is free
  • find a nice café or a library if you don’t like studying in your house (my house is always super loud for example)

i’m not talking about the wall you have behind your desk, i’m talking about music, podcasts and so on.

  • i usually listen to music: (i made a spotify playlist that you can see here) BUT i don’t listen to anything if i am doing maths or latin homeworks
  • i have never listened to any podcasts but i’ve read of people that find it useful so just do what you think it’s better for you (lol)
  • youtube videos: when i am not in the mood for music or i can’t find anything that i like, i’d just create a youtube playlist. i usually put in it videos like “november favorites”, “plan with me”, vlogs or such things.
  • i NEVER study with the tv turned on. i find it very distracting and not helpful at all

food is great. that’s it.

  • drinks: i’d usually go for a tea, a coffe, a hot chocolate…
  • snacks: i like energy bars(?), i like almonds, peanuts, cereals; but i won’t say no to nutella, chocolate bars, sweets and cookies. just eat what pleases you.

and i’m finished! this is what i usually do to study. and also, remember not to study for, like, two hours straight with no pauses! it’s not useful at all, you just get distracted more, and more, and more. be sure to pause for a little walk, browse your phone or something.

have a nice day
